I should know this by now…..

I have been overweight now for about 20 years. I was always skinny during childhood and as a teenager (everyone used to call me string bean… now I’m more like a potato) but once I got married I started to put on a little weight. I weighed 202lbs when I got pregnant and thought I had a license to eat….. I gained 60 pounds with my first daughter (she was 10lbs 7oz of that). Eventually I got back down to where I was when I first got pregnant but I again ate like there was no tomorrow and gained it all back and then some. When I had my 2nd daughter I weighed 275. I again eventually lost back to 220. Well, here I am in 2008 and I’m still struggling with my weight. I’m now at my all time high of 303lbs. I have tried every kind of diet there is - low carb, low-fat, Jenny Craig, Weigh down, soup diets, no white foods diet, etc. I’ve even just ate healthy foods and I always seem to fail. Over the past 20 years I have learned all of the nutritional information, the ways to excercise, and all of the other little tips that help you lose, but for some reason I just don’t stick to it. Each time I start on one of these journeys I start off full force and within a day, week, or a month I end up back where I started from. Each time I start off with “I’m going to do it this time.” I don’t want to say that this time because I’m tired of failing. This time I’ll just simply say….. Tomorrow will be a better day than today. :)

For whatever reason, maybe you just weren’t ready to do it before. You may stumble again, but I think that the key is to not give up completely. Who knows, your life might take a stressful turn, and you give it up for a month or two,but somewhere inside you, you’ve got to get it in you that you can do it,and that you will do it. My problem used to be is that I would be on a diet,be doing pretty good, then get weak and have a brownie sundae, then just feel so bad about myself and give up completely. Slow and steady is not a bad thing,it’s all about baby steps. But we’re all in this thing with you girl!

108 lbs at my wedding and couldn’t gain.
4 children later and at a squishy 155 lbs. Hate my arms. : )
My children are grown, I can’t keep claiming baby fat. I’m with you. Let’s take a small step.

You can do this! You have taken a very important first step by joining Buddyslim. It is really helping me. I log on several times a day and it really seems to help. There is really a wonderful support system here.

I have done the same thing. I was always thin growing up, until I got pregnant. I too thought it was a license to eat. I have been battling it ever since. I am no were near my goal as of yet but I seem to have a different attitude this time. I can’t explain it, I just feel as though my life needs a change and I am doing it. I dont want to be old and sickly so I am getting healthy. I am not doing it just to look good and lose wieght and wear a certain size, those are all just rewards for my healthy lifestyle. No one can give you the determination, you have to find that within yourself but what we can do is support you through it all. The support here is awesome so blog blog blog, it helps. You can do this and we will support you anyway you need it. Now is the time, here is the place.

I know what it’s like, as I’ve been there before. It’s a long, hard road to travel but you can get there. Just take it one day at a time. Welcome to the site! :o)
